Hot Aisle Containment

Hot Aisle Containment is an alternative to Cold Aisle Containment, but with the hot aisle being contained instead.

With Hot Aisle Containment the hot aisle is contained by infill panels on top of the racks that direct the hot air back into the ceiling plenum and back to the cooling system. With both types of aisle containment systems, preventing hot and cold air from mixing can provide the means to make significant energy efficiency improvements to be made, by adjusting the output of the CRAC units. EDP Europe also offers a Thermal Curtain Hot Aisle Containment solution.

For an out-of-the-box Hot Aisle Containment system there is the AisleLok Modular Containment system where rack top baffles can be quickly, and easily attached to the top of the racks. End of aisle Bi-directional doors that attach directly to the cabinets at the end of each row of racks completes the containment, or alternatively there are the AisleLok sliding doors.

Installing an aisle containment system is part of the 4R’s of airflow management, which shows how managing airflow at raised floor, rack, row and room levels, will help enable optimisation of cooling systems.
