Cavity Wall Fire Barrier for Cable Transit
The Abesco CT240 is a cavity wall fire barrier that provides fire protection for cables or services that need to penetrate a fire rated floor or wall. The Abesco CT240 consists of a rectangular steel sleeve that contains a heat reactive intumescent material. The design of the CT240 cable transit enables it to be opened to allow an easy retro-fit option where cable trays or cables are preinstalled. Once the CT240 is installed there is no requirement for any further maintenance of the cavity wall fire barrier.
Like with the Abesco CT120 cable transits, the intumescent material within the CT240 expands rapidly when exposed to high temperatures and forms a solid insulating char plug that effectively closes and seals the cavity wall fire barrier preventing the passage of fire and smoke through the fire-rated wall or floor. Each Abesco CT240 is supplied with 2 end foam plugs that are inserted after the cables have been installed and reduce smoke leakage. The unique mounting flange for the CT240 enables them to be attached in place without the use of mechanical fixings into walls or floors.
The Abesco CT240 cavity wall fire barrier is designed and rigorously tested to prevent the spread of fire and smoke from one compartment to another where these walls or floors are breached by electrical, data and telecommunication cables and cable trays. These retrofittable cable fire barriers do not require the use of any putties, sealants or coatings and can accommodate just a few or many cables – even up to full size cable ladders. The Abesco CT240 is suitable for use in most types of construction including concrete, concrete block, gypsum drywall and rated wooden floor constructions. Used worldwide the Abesco CT240 is tested and approved by independent third party laboratories such as Underwriters Laboratories, UL and is tested in accordance with EN1366-3, BS476-20, ASTM814 (UL1479) and AS1530-4.
