A liquid cooled rack solution that is easily retro-fittable to any 42U x 600mm wide rack.

The cooling system in a Data Centre facility is critical in order to ensure proper operation and performance.

The PSH Climate Liquid Cooled system from EDP Europe, provides a retro-fitting liquid cooled rack solution that uses a refrigerant liquid such as R134A or CO2, which is harmless to electrical equipment.  This means that there is no need for a leak prevention system which is a prudent requirement for chilled water systems. In the unlikely event that the refrigerant system develops a leak, any liquid that escapes will immediately turn into a non-flammable gas.

The PSH liquid cooled rack system comprises of:

An Indoor Unit

The indoor unit retrofits to the rear of an existing 42U rack.  The unit incorporates a cooling coil with thermostatically controlled fans.

An Outdoor Unit

The outdoor unit containing the condenser, compressor and refrigerant reservoir.

How The Liquid Cooled Rack Solution works

The two units are connected by small diameter pipe work. Liquid refrigerant is pumped from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit where it flows through the coil. The hot exhaust air from the servers causes the refrigerant to vaporise and it returns to the outdoor unit as a gas. The outdoor unit dissipates the heat to the atmosphere, returns the gas to a liquid and the cycle starts again.

Each indoor unit responds to the specific heat load of the equipment at any given moment, which avoids any under or over cooling, saving on energy costs and eliminating hot spots. Using different configurations of outdoor and indoor units, cooling densities of between 15kW and 30kW per rack are possible.

  • Cooling is applied directly in the heat source.
  • Uses a refrigerant instead of water.

Compatibility

  • The indoor units are equipped with a frame so that they can be adapted to all rack manufacturers and models in the market.

No Containment Required

  • As the coil is placed only 3cm from the heat source, there is no need for hot aisle containment.

No Raised Floor

  • As the refrigerant pipes are located in the upper side of the indoor units there is no need for a raised floor in order to achieve proper airflow.
  • The clearance of the raised floor can be used for other infrastructure systems (electrical, etc.)

High Density

  • The PSH liquid cooled rack solution is flexible, with different configurations available to handle capacities between 15kW and 30kW.

Modular & Scalable

  • The system can be expanded as the need arises by adding additional indoor units and outdoor units as required.
