AFL VFI4 Visual Fault Identifiers

VFI4 Visual Fault Locators

The VFI4 Visual Fault Identifier from AFL is a Visual Fault Locator designed to detect defects in fibre optic networking cables.

Visual Fault Identifiers emit a visible red laser that is injected into a fibre optic network cable enabling field technicians to locate defects in a fibre optic cable. Sharp bends, breaks, faulty connectors and other faults will “leak” red light that is generated by the Visual Fault Identifier enabling the technician to visually spot where the defects lie.

The VFI4 has a rugged and compact design ideal for the rigors faced in real-life field testing. With a range of up to 10km, and compact enough to fit on a key ring, it features extensions that protect the laser port. With CW and pulsating modes it is powered by a single AA battery that provides up to 30 hours of operation.

Useful in fibre network installation and activation it can be used to provide quick continuity checks, fibre tracing, splice verification, Pass/Fail validation and can help support OTDRs by locating faults inside the OTDR’s dead zone.

VFI4 is an excellent troubleshooting tool, perfect for locating sharp bends, breaks, faulty connectors and other defects that “leak” light.
