Raised Floor Tiles to Improve Data Centre Airflow Management

EDP Distribution supplies raised floor tiles that enable improvements in how airflow in Data Centres is managed.

Managing Data Centre airflow is critical if cooling optimisation is to be accomplished. By optimising cooling systems it enables energy efficiency gains to be made. By following airflow management best practices at raised floor, rack and row levels it allows the optimisation of cooling to happen at room level. This is called the 4Rs of Airflow Management.

EDP Distribution supplies raised floor tiles that can assist in improving airflow management at raised floor level. Sealing cable openings is an important step in improving airflow management. One of the leading solutions is to seal them using KoldLok floor grommets. However, an alternative solution is to simple replace the floor tile with a tile that has brushed opening already provided. EDP’s Brushed Floor Tiles are available with single, double or with triple openings that can be dropped in place. These are supplied with cover plates to cover the openings when not in use.

Improving air delivery is another important factor. Traditional airflow grilles often suffer from poor air delivery, resulting in short cycling and even negative airflow. Triad Airflow Grilles provide the solution. A specially design grille that has a unique hole pattern and under-grille fins that disrupt airflow. The result, positive airflow that ‘bends’ outwardly with improved stratification that allows air to reach top of rack equipment.

Finally, where grilles are placed in areas that are not currently in use. EDP Distribution supplies grille covers that fit popular brands of floor grilles. Their bright red colour enables them to be easily seen when installed.
