More About This Product
This HUBER+SUHNER Optipack conversion harness enables the conversion of 2 x Base-12 MTP connections to 3 x Base-8 MTP connections.
Base-12 MTP to Base-8 MTP Conversion Harness
Optipack conversion harness for Base-12 to Base-8 network infrastructure
Conversion harnesses enable users to convert their existing MTP backbone infrastructure to an MTP type that matches their active equipment.
In this case the Base-12 MTP to Base-8 MTP Conversion Harness enables two Base-12 MTP connections to become three Base-8 connections. Using a conversion harness is a low-loss alternative to using conversion modules because they eliminate one mated MTP pair across the link. Every connection in a link adds a degree of unwanted loss, but with HUBER+SUHNER’s ultra-low-loss modules and harness assemblies, this loss is kept to an absolute minimum. This delivers flexibility but keeps the higher data rates required for today’s businesses.
Many of today’s legacy infrastructures are built using Base-12 MTP backbone design, however there’s evidence that this connector is rarely used on higher data rate switches or servers. Currently, Base-8 is the preferred connector on 40G transceivers (SR4) and Base-24 is the preferred connector for 100G transceivers (SR10).
To help identify what base rate the MTP connector is HUBER+SUHNER use colour-coding on their IANOS modules which is then carried through to the strain-relief boots of their MTP cables enabling easier identification and helping to reduce or spot incorrectly mated connectors. Base-24 uses a red connector, Base-12 black and Base-8 grey connectors.
